We have a wound strip which goes on the dress uniform, it came in after I got hurt. However it's only for those injured overseas. So I don't get one.

Yes, compared to the American decorations system ours is incredibly stringent. An American might get a Bronze or Silver Star for dragging a wounded comrade out of fire (for example), we'd get a Mention in Dispatches (which is a silver oak leaf worn on the campaign medal).

WTF? Home-soil incidents don't count? F*ck that. You were injured in service to your country, right? It only makes sense that you'd at least be recognized for it.

I've seen numerous war docos on the History channel where american GI's during the war thought the purple heart was a joke. It got awarded for someone who had a leg blown off and to someone who got a little cut from a piece of shrapnel on the arm.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I agree the low-end requirements should be raised, but recognition for injuries that serious deserve recognition. I saw pics of my friend after he was hit in the head by shrapnel; his head was swollen to nearly twice it's normal size on that side, black with bruising. They fixed him up really well (you can barely tell he's had an injury at this point), but that's still something that should be recognized.

Frankly at the end of the day, the only thing that matters to me is that I have my pension. They can keep the stripe.

Some more, taken just today. This time, they were taken by someone else rather than a self-portrait, so they should look better. These were taken by my sister against her bedroom window. Outside it's overcast, but bright in New York.

Notice I now have a bit of fuzz on the face. :D

Once the 'stache grows out a bit more, I'm going to shave it in the middle, and go for the Worf.

Did I say I wasn't a nerd in another thread?

Yeah, but I'll get several thousand back when I actually shave the mustache into Worf-style.
