Yes, compared to the American decorations system ours is incredibly stringent. An American might get a Bronze or Silver Star for dragging a wounded comrade out of fire (for example), we'd get a Mention in Dispatches (which is a silver oak leaf worn on the campaign medal).Teaos wrote:Common wealth countries dont have the purple heart or any like medal. I've seen numerous war docos on the History channel where american GI's during the war thought the purple heart was a joke. It got awarded for someone who had a leg blown off and to someone who got a little cut from a piece of shrapnel on the arm.

I agree the low-end requirements should be raised, but recognition for injuries that serious deserve recognition. I saw pics of my friend after he was hit in the head by shrapnel; his head was swollen to nearly twice it's normal size on that side, black with bruising.
