Well when they did TNG itself it wasn't so bad... 9 fast, 9.6 really fast. DS9 didn't do much with warp factors at all. It wasn't till Voyager came along and claimed 9.975 that things got silly.

One day we're gonna have "They went to warp 9.99932? Well, go to warp 9.999321 then!" and how dumb is that going to be!

"Cap'n! She'll fly herself apart if we spend more than 5 minutes at warp 9.64316761 x RMS of e!"

Doesn't really flow, does it?

welcome to a whole new system of warp: the pi scale
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9.1, 9.14, 9.141, 9.1415, 9.14159, 9.141592, 9.1415926, 9.14159265, 9.141592653, 9.1415926539... (and yes all those digits of pi came out of my head, no internet used.)

pi, as in the T with two vertical lines is a greek letter representing the ratio between the Cercumferance of a circle to it's diemeter, it always equals 3.1415926539... (that's all i have memorized) pi actually extends forever in non-repeating fasion. there's actually a computer still working on calculating pi to see if it does ever end.

uh-oh, i've said to much,

Ok, I'm actually an agent from the future after humans achieve FTL travel and time travel abilities, I'm a historian come back to the 21st centuary to discover the common attitudes towards space exploration at the time. This i figured would be a good way to see a positive side of it.

Unfortuneately now that i've told you i'll have to contact my supiriors and have all of you phased out of existance, it was nice knowing you.
