That is ALOT of power. And more potential weak spots.

The bubble shield would be over lapping with a second layer on the skin. And I'm not thinking two cores... but eight.
I could see this thing running on a few Defiant-style cores

Yes, but we'll need it.

Not really, a room is a room. Doesn't matter if its got one core in it or fifty. Its still only one weak spot that can be sectioned and protected. 10m of armor, three layers of shields and dual heavy grade SIFs... and thats only from a single direction.

Your thoughts echoed mine. I was thinking having a single or a pair of standard sized cores for the drive systems and maybe some of the more menial systems, then a quartet or sextuplet of Defiant style cores to run weapons/shields etc.

Has anybody read the TOS novel "Dreadnaught"? It had a similar shield system to what we're going for here I think. I THINK it had three complete seperate shield systems (which seems like overkill), but with regenerating shields, we could use an Equinox move, and drop the outer shield completely to let it recharge, or recycle, or whatever technobabble they used, while we still have the inner shield. Then reactivate and we're good.

The MonCals SW and the Advent both used systems like that. Rotating which shield system they had active. Allowing for minor repairs and recharge.
I think with what we are building, we need to account for the fire this thing will draw. The ability to keep the ship shielded is beyond important.

True. The Battlestar will have to be ready to contend with small fleets, entire system defense forces, orbital platforms, and planetary weapons. She'll be getting pounded from all sides as she moves in to deploy her troops and fighters.

All right you lot, that'll do. Remember rule 7:
Innuendo, while it has become an accepted part of the forum, needs its limits.

Good god....I think Seafort's mind is completely in the gutter. We WERE all speaking tactically, weren't we?

Anyhoo... You guys have put together a real beast here. If I ever get Bryce 5 running again, I might give modeling it a shot.
