I'd guess it's either a china cupboard - being above the dining table - or a scoreboard for when the table converts into an air-hockey table.

Seriously, who the hell thought that bridge layout was a good idea?

I guess Roddenberry did...
You should be happy, Rochey - THAT layout makes the onscreen E-D bridge look like the command deck of a u-boat!

I am happy.
I'm just having trouble getting over it all...
The horror....the horror....

It really is quite awful. Do you think they have an XBox to go with that TV?

Maybe they have a system that explodes when a completely unrelated system, located 12 decks away, gets hit.
Oh, wait. They have that system onscreen. It's called, "everything on the damn ship."

Now now, lets be fair - The Liberator in Blake's 7 had a very comfy looking couch on the bridge. And the chairs at the controls look like Lazy Boys

I'd love to see the look of Sulu's face if he ever saw a galaxy class bridge! Even a gay man would freak out at them about it!

Sulu knew how to run a warship.
These guys, they just have no idea...

Nah, too safe. A 360 would be better. Red ring of death!

if a ship wants to survive to war, they must make sure that there are no redshirts on board.

On the up side that bridge layout would be a great place for the officers to show off their new evening dress:

Yeah, that red X would look just great on the crew.
