That's one of the reasons why I'm desperate to see some cutaways or cross sections.
Yeah, since the scene before that showed it firing upwards from the engineering deck, then we cut to it firing sideways.
I'm all for a good action flick, but I do wish they would put slightly more thought into the design of the craft?!?
GrahamKennedy wrote:There was a big argument about whether to show the Sovereign warp core ejection in Insurrection. Apparently they say that whilst ejecting the core downward makes great engineering sense, it tends to come across on screen rather as if the ship is dropping a giant turd. I guess they decided to try doing it upwards!
ROFL!!! That's hilaroius.
Where did you hear that?
I like having multiple cores - always wanted to see that in a starship, I even did drawings of a Defiant engine room with twin horizontal cores once. It makes perfect sense - redundancy, ability to weather battle damage, all that good stuff.
Yes but its ANTIMATTER we're talking about here, I think that's the reason most starships only have one core, even though I totally agree on the redundancy issue, I'd think its far too dangerous with an M/AM reactor.

We don't see him using anything, for one.
That's a real stretch to label something that incorrect "cinematic license."
PLEASE use some kind of display device next time.
We don't see him observing the event at all. All we see is his mind's representation of it happening.
Perhaps, but he did say Nero had marooned him there to watch it.
It was implied in real life. There was nothing to imply that this was a obfuscation because of the dream sequence.
Also, what's with the warp core being multiple segments, and shot out the back instead of downward vertically?
It wasn't shot out of the back. It was shot upwards and was then dragged backwards by the black hole. You can see this very clearly.

Oh dang. I totally missed that.
Now I have to see it three times.
DUH, that makes sense.

Yes, watch it. Perhaps on a viewscreen.

Except for the fact that what we saw was blatantly a representation of what happened, and the physical impossibility of that scene were it actualy true.

Other parts of the meld scene were surrealistic. I can't wait for DVD's and vidcaps!

Also, that meld included footage of events Spock couldn't possibly have witnessed from that perspective as they happened
before he arrived.
