Firstly, what is "salms"?
Secondly,
how small an amount? I honestly hate most rap.
Except when it's done
properly, of course.

Have you ever heard "I'm on a boat"? Great rap song, better then most any of them out there.

Check out
The Roots - live instrumentation, actual songwriting, and an intelligent outlook. I also recommend (for the same reasons) the old Native Tongues movement, with acts like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul.

My all time favorite band is Relient K. Other than that I listen to random bands. Classical music/soundtracks are good too.

I've got a new favourite band called "Scar Symmetry" another sweedish death metal band, signed to the epic Nuclear Blast label - here's an example (just incase there IS actually anyone out there besides me who is a huge metalhead
) Oddly these have a bit of a sci-fi element to them, song titles like "Quantum Leaper" off the album "Holographic Universe" lol...
anyhow!

The Rolling Stones
Neil Young (and his many different backing bands)
Queen
Jimmy Buffett
Little Feat
Petshop Boys
Black Sabbath
The Talking Heads
Killing Joke
R.E.M.
Followed by (in no particular order):
KISS
Metallica (1983-1990ish)
Iced Earth
The White Stripes
Bruce Springsteen

Call me lazy, but that's a lot of bands to link to various things.

For my bad moods, and for the music that strikes a cord with my Rock side.
Children of the Night - The Blackout <-- A little Welsh blood pride in there
Dear Maria, Count me in - All Time low
The World - Nightmare <-- Unusual, but I like Visual Kei. Notable as being the opening theme of the Anime "Death Note".
It's Far Better To learn - Saosin
Labyrinth - Enter Shikari <-- Unfortunately one of their lesser known songs.
And a softer note for music that strikes your heart.
Huron (Beltane fire dance) - Loreena McKennitt
The Old Ways - Loreena McKennitt <-- This song makes me cry every time. She sung it for her husband, who was lost at sea when he was returning and his private boat was claimed by the storms of the sea.
Cymbeline - Loreena McKennit
Without doubt one of my favourite artists. and What i will say is i have her recorded album versions. There is absolutely no difference, almost perfect singing, when she sings live.

Heartily seconded. Loreena McKennit's voice is one of the most evocative I've ever heard.

Here's one I can't believe I forgot until now, but I found an old CD in the car and was reminded - I think Tsu would like these guys:
Pitchshifter
(my personal fave song from them is "Product Placement," but I couldn't find a clip)
