Dishonorable, perhaps, but at least you either win or go down fighting.
Hmmm, not bad that one. And then hope to hell you can beat the boarding party. I like it.
Although you have to wonder if the Jem'Hadar want prisoners.
How about this. The outpost actually did have something significant... a person or object that nobody realised the significance of at the time. Our heroes beam the MacGuffin up as the bug arrives along with the outpost staff.
So not only can they not run, but no matter how long they wait, the bug is going to stay until it finds them. This also gives them a motivation to board the ship to get hold of the MacGuffin.

Or, when they're shields go down, beam photon torpedos over. One onto they're bridge, one into engineering, and if I could, one into the computer core as well. They go boom and we get away alive.

In my opinion, what good is honor if you're dead?
In the words of Hobbes from the cartoon "Calvin and Hobbes:"
"Doesn't impress the girls, but no use impressing them and getting eaten, my dad used to say..."
Yes, I used that in the 'Pride RP.

for me, i would try and play cat and mouse in the asteroids, deploying perhaps detonating probes along the asteroids, laying antimatter pods or perhaps even a charge loaded shuttle. blow the bug to hell with that.

I'd go with Mikey's idea. Convince them that this is actualy some new type of experimental vessel, and get them to try to board you. When they lower shields, beam a torpedo into their bridge.
Screw honour.

This thread could re-write the books on "irregular" starship combat tactics

If I were Starfleet, I'd keep the various Frankenfleet ships as patrol crafts, science ships in non-important roles, and medical/supply ships. As I've advocated in numerous other threads, your potential for hazard is minimal, and it's more efficient than building all new ships.

According to what everyone is speculating, would that be worth it? The expected hull life of these ships appears to be rather short, since they weren't actually MEANT to be constructed how they are. If they were put into service in those capacities, wouldn't they have to be replaced relitavely soon anyway?

Do you think they'd take that much of a beating that the hull would be that huge of a problem?

Just the fact of something the size of starship moving at all would put great stresses on the material.

I wouldn't imagine that they'd really need that much of a beating. Since they are cobbled together from unmatching components, I would guess they'd do most of the damage to themselves. Like if you accelerate to fast at impulse speeds, you could rip off a nacelle, or cut a turn, you may perform an "unplanned" saucer seperation

Exactly... up sizing an F-14 and duct taping it to an Intrepid Saucer does not work for very long...

Have you watched TNG? Those science ships may face more danger than any other ship (in times of peace). One of those things goes into the warp-damaged corridor or near the Dyson sphere.... POOF!
