Oh sorry, I meant that misconception that the Romulans only had impulse drive. It's a myth that's been widespread for a long time.

Don't be. I've seen that assumption so often that I sometimes question my own interpretation. But then I realize that the Romulans would have been about 800 years old if they didn't have FTL propulsion.

There's really nothing to be sorry about, especially as you saw your error after it was pointed out. There's people pn the net that have been clinging to that POV for decades (why I can't imagine) despite the fact that the BoP would have been a generation ship.

Taken by its self its easy to see how people can mistake what the sentence means. But when you look at it rationally it only has one answer... well two if you include pixie dust.

I've also heard it speculated that the BoP COULD have been some kind of drop ship, with a larger, warp cabable vessel having deployed it in the NZ, remaining under cover waiting to pick it up after it's mission. Following that train of thought, I suppose it COULD have used something like a warp booster (i.e. Main Rocket Boosters that launch our shuttles into space) or even some type of warp sled tech.

Then why wouldn't they just send the larger, more powerful ship to deal with the issue; or if it wasn't capable, just build larger, FTL-capable ships?

Its possible but not very likely. The Romulan BoP most likely had a warp drive but couldn't use it so long as it was cloaked. Since dropping cloak would mean using their shields against the E-O and we know how poor Romulan shields are. They may have hoped to defeat or escape the Enterprise.
