Now what about that weapon Fajo fired in "The Most Toys," the "Varon-T disruptor?"

Well you know it's the bio... trans... quantum... energy. Thing.

Here's a question. How the hell does stun work?

By disrupting one's "neural energy" through...quantum

There is actually some interesting work that shows that magnetic fields projected into the brain in particular ways can have all sorts of effects, though these require inductor coils to be placed very close to the scalp.

Extremely high-level magnetic fields can be extremely disorienting; of course, they also have other effects, like attracting any nearby ferrous metals at extremely high speeds...

I'm not sure, but I'd guess it's a more advanced version of the modern TASER.

Yeah, what I'm talking about isn't that strong, but is directed at very specific areas of the brain via coils placed a few inches over the scalp.

I always figured that the same nadion effect that causes vaporization/disintegration also causes, at much lower levels, an interference effect on the central nervous system. Of course, that begs the question of why it works on so many different species in a similar manner...

I'd love to see that on the new movie.

Kirk : "They are neutralising our weapons! How can they do that Spock?"
Spock : "Well you know Captain.... quantum."

They did the next best thing to that, Graham. In one VOY episode, the anomaly of the week was emitting a pulse that took down the ship's shield. Why did it do that? Well, because it was an interferometric pulse.
Seriously, they aren't even trying any more.

Just to point out how stupid this term was, a site we're all familiar with made up the following bit of dialogue with some more of those incredibly technical terms.
"Harry: Captain, they've set up an anti-what-we're-doing field!
Janeway: See if you can remodulate the shields to repel it with a boing-atron burst.
Harry: No good. I also tried having the deflector release a multiphased-knock-it-off pulse, but it didn't work.
Paris: Captain, things are critical. I'm reading 7.23 isocochranes on the we're-f*cked scale; I'm not sure how long we can keep this up.
Janeway: Bridge to Engineering, I need all power transfered to the deus ex machina generators right now!
Torres: But captain, I have Oh Shit! lights coming on all over the place!
Janeway: If we don't do it now, we risk total quantum-sodomization, and that's a risk I'm not willing to take!"

Are you sure that wasn't from a real script?

Well, if you looked up terms like "Metrionic" and "telephasic" in the Trek dictionary (Trektionary?), that might be what they mean.

What about it? The only thing notable about it was that it was a painful way to die.
