Blocked as of today, we'll soon know if it's that bot.

So first I make you nervous when I claim to be a long time lurker, then we find a Russian bot that is showing a perhaps unhealthy interest in us...I'm glad no ones made the connection yet...{ahem}
Strastvitye!
Strastvitye?

It's an unfamiliar or formal form of "hello" in Russian.

Ah, thank you. I take German, not Russian. (I intend to try it at some point though).

Yeah, I don't know any Russian either (and was thinking of asking what strastvitye meant as well). I only know English, French, and a little bit of several others.

And here we go again. 8,000 yesterday, 9,000 so far today and 20,000 projected.

I wish I knew. It's not the bot I thought it was, that's gone. Yahoo bot is the biggest 'user' currently.

That's what I was thinking.

Looking at the logs I think it's a site downloader going wrong. Each page they try to download causes the frames to reload and they go mad. I'm putting a blocker together so stop downloaders from working.

Appart from skewing the numbers does it really matter?

It doesn't matter particularly to me on a personal level; since day one Ian and I have striven to make DITL the kind of site we like; that it attracts others in large numbers is purely secondary to us, though I can't deny that I get a thrill when we top another million mark.
But if we are going to collect statistics, I'd like us to collect accurate ones.

Nothing wrong with accepting a little third-party praise (in the form of visitors) for something you've worked so hard on.
