The last funeral I went to had the entire group of people visiting the church go all teh way to the cemetry, some good 2-3 km down the road. All 400 of them.

Here, the burial tends to be family and close friends only (or just family), with everyone else just going to the church service.
Hmm. TBH, I'm still a little vague on Christian funerals... IIRC, they're more like what you describe (though the RC's, at least, seem to have a good number of folks at the graveside as well.)

That's probably due to large families or lots of close friends - the only funerals I've been to have been RC.

Note: This is a rant to my fellow teachers and instructors.

Why the fuck must people flaunt and wallow in their ignorance?

I volunteer once a week to teach relapse prevention at the rehab facility I graduated from. Key word...volunteer. Why must the staff there give me such a hard time? How the hell do I teach something that I don't believe in? They wan't me to teach these guys that they can be healed by God of their addiction. Spirituality is a big part of recovery, but telling people that if they pray hard enough they won't be drunks or druggies anymore is set these guys up for failure. And failing THIS test could get you or somebody else killed.

The only thing more irritating than this is a guy with 4 months clean and sober telling you that he knows better than you because twenty years ago, he graduated an Ivy League school. Well, he forgot that 4 months ago he was living on the street pissing all over himself from drugs and alcohol.

It actually came down to this....

Him: "What school did you go to again?"
Me: "I didn't. I enlisted in the Army after high school."
Him: "Well, as educating as I'm sure that was, I've got a four year degree from Harvard, so I'm not trying to be rude but I just don't think your qualified to instruct this class."
Me: (getting pissed) Well, let's examine that. What was your degree in? Substance abuse or counsling?
Him: No. Liberal Arts.
Me: How long did you wallow in your addiction?
Him: I started in high school, so about 25 years.
Me: And how many times did you try and stop and get help or go into a treatment program?
Him: Maybe a dozen or so.
Me: And how long you been clean this time?
Him: About four months.
Me: Well, I got high for 13 years and I've been clean for coming up on five years. Does that qualify me?"
Him: I don't know what you gonna teach me that I don't already know. I KNOW what I need to do to not get high.

:bangwall:

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG

Any job where you need to deal with the common human is a line of work to be avoided. It tends to just create a strong desire for an asteroid to hit the planet to stop the stupid from spreading.

Psst....don't go into my line of work little bro. No matter how much you like cars.

It amazes me how many people can't tell you basic information about their vehicle. Half of the callers can't tell you what the milage of their own car is. Some can't tell you what they want done. Some can't even tell you what kind of a car they drive.

Let's look at my VERY first call this morning at 8:00 am.

Me: "What kind of car do you have?"
Them: "A silver one."
