I just find it odd that now I'm playing two people in the same SIM.

Not easy btw.

Edit: not really Tsu. The Romulan Empire has warp drive already, and in this game has become a democratic power. Once they asked for help in this manner (as a small protectorate), it didn't take much for the Feds to get involved.

So where the fuck is this pretend rulebook we were following at the start of this? If this sim is just going to turn into a GM's joke then after this fight I'm gone. I'm getting tired of this crap.

Simply put, the UFP shouldn't be allowed to do more than offer humanitarian aid if allowed by the Empire.

In TNG, the UFP was forced to sit out the Klingon civil war because of the Prime Directive. They also couldn't help the Bajorans, despite their situation.

In DS9, the Federation only operated in an advisory position on the station, and then only after the Cardassians left.

Unless the Federation has revised the Prime Directive without us knowing about it, they should be able to do little more than send medical supplies and food if the Klingons allow it. Aiding a rebellion or moving in to create a "protectorate" in Klingon space would violate the PD.

But, as the Romulan Government still exists, this isn't (in their eyes) Klingon space, but rather Romulan space under occupation.

See the above example involving the Cardassian occupation of Bajor.

Anything like this should cause massive political upheaval in the Federation, and probably the removal of the current government.

The Federation government can't simply choose to violate the Prime Directive on a massive scale like this, and risk starting a war, all for a power they have no alliance with and no MD treaties with.

I'd guess Big will sort this out when he gets home. The Federation can't ignore it's own founding principals without major repercussions.

It's and issue between to separate powers with by the PD is something the UFP can not involve. Even more so since by all IC accounts the RSC is guilty of starting the war and for the loss of 45 billion lives.

The Federation was not invited to intervene by the Cardassian government, and was only asked in as an adviser for DS9. In this case they were asked to make someone a protectorate. I don't see the issue. Perhaps this is merely the Federation evolving and realizing the blind devotion to the Prime Directive formerly practiced is kinda crazy.

They were asked by the Bajorans to which the UFP refused as it was within the borders of two nations in conflict.

If the UFP wants to evolve then they need to change the PD first. Not declare war by joining a race Guilty (by IC concern) of mass murder.

Were they? I can't remember. Looks like I need to review late-TNG/early-DS9.

Watch eps "Redemption" from season 4 TNG and "Ensign Ro" from season 5 TNG. Its laid out pretty clearly between the two. The PD strictly forbids becoming involved in the affairs of others when it comes to war. The PD is iffy on stopping a moon from crashing or the like, but becoming involved in wars without hostile actions from one party or the other is beyond question.
