I would to begin desining a support and supply tender for the Paladin class. (We've been discussing this in another thread) Any help would be appriciated. This will be my first attempt to design a ship.

The Solar Class was put into production c. 2397. It was designed as the first true Federation fraightor. Instead of utilizing civillian freightors, or weighing down battle convoies with extra supplies, this ship was designed to transport supplies, and gear where in needs to be when it needs to be there. It's designers also equipped the cargo hull to seperate. The Ship is then able to hook up to large sections of space stations and take them to their assembling point.
Changed the stats from the orriginal to make it more Cannon Trek like the Paladin.

A few points.
1479 crew
222 officers
Thats way to many crew. This thing is filled with cargo not people, most of it would be cargo holds.. This whole ship should have no more than 100 people on it.
Primary Armor (Vital Systems): 10cm
No armour. This thing needs to be as quick and cheap to build as possible.
I'd also drop the torpedo tubes and just have phasers. One less thing to build and maintain.

I fully agree with Teaos. No reason to have a cargo ship that is harder to maintain then the battleships they supply.

I'm liking it much better now.
What is the mass cost and build time for this thing?

Yeah, I like it alot. I'm seeing something not really very big, but big enough. Do you have a sketch design for this one? If not, maybe something like a galaxy or nebula saucer with the nacelles attatched directly to the hull. Quick, simple, components already there, and that would give ALOT of room for cargo space and engines.

OOOHHHHH...... Ok...............WAAAYYYYY to big. That thing could never achieve the kind of speed it would need.

Its a fine size. Its a cargo hauler, it need to be big. And the speed is a little faster than a GCS which is 20 year old. I find it very reasonable.
