My aunt once had a horse step on her foot. Broke most of the bones there.

In the situation I saw, a guy was being a nuisance - couldn't hold his liquor, I guess - and then was abusive toward the cop who tried to calm him down. After the offender became belligerent, the cop (still mounted) rode the horse up to the guy until the horse's chest was mushed against the guy's face, then proceeded to drive the guy back into and pin him against a wall.

It's easy to forget that a horse can be an effective weapon, if used correctly. Half the time, people forget that.
