The Camp Fire (yes that's what it's called) is now the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history, with @ 150,000 acres burned so far, and 45% contained, 68 confirmed dead, and over 6000 structures destroyed. I even lost my truck. We didn't have time to grab anything but some clothes in a bag. Fortunately my family and I are safe and sound. We're living with a family we know in Gridley. If you go to

Good god, that sounds horrible. Glad to hear everyone is OK.
Wow, bud. Just saw went back to read the last page of this thread. That is awful - glad you got out safe. I'm glad your insurance will give you some options at least. I know (though for far less tragic reasons) what it's like to start over with nothing. Stay strong, be grateful for your family and friends. And you have us here, for all of our well meaning, though limited in practicality, thoughts and prayers.

Yes. Yes it does.
Ian's off on a cruise with his missus. I am babysitting his cats, the one who is largely indifferent towards people and the one who actively hates them. Fun times.

I loathed cats for years, but my most recent experience spending time with 2 has made me rethink it. Both are very friendly, though one has no concept of personal space. The one I like the best has a bobbed tail and weighs about as much as my bunny did, and will sit on my lap for hours. It's super sweet and makes me want to get a cat once I've got a house of my own again.

I received a similar reaction when I took my cats on a cruise and asked someone to babysit my wife.

Well I survived Black Friday. Not sure about the weekend, though. Been rough today.

You'll forgive me for forgetting... Are you in a larger retailer or a small business? I really lucked out in my 8 years at retail - only worked one black Friday. Of course, in grocery warehousing Thanksgiving season starts October 1st and stays busy until about December 30th when all the New Years stuff is out.

No worries, Bryan. I've got an
atrocious memory. I work in a Walmart. So big, I guess.

"Big, I guess."
And Warren Buffett is upper-middle class...
I don't know how it was at your store, but I was thoroughly impressed with our local Super Walmart's Black Friday response. I had to go Thanksgiving Day around 3 pm because I am an idiot and forgot to buy pizza dough for the pizzas I was making that night. They had the barricades in place, all hands on deck, everything staged and ready to go, and were thoroughly organized for the 6pm early bird deals. An acquaintance of mine works there and when I was talking to her for a few minutes, she said it was less stressful than your normal busy weekend because of the preparation they put into it. Hopefully it went smoothly in your store!

I had Thursday off, first time in I don't even remember how long. I worked 3AM to 12 PM Friday. My job is fulfilling orders for Walmart.com. I go out, find the product, bring it back to a small packing station in receiving. We normally have 600 orders a day. We've been having 950-1000 lately. I wonder why.
From what I heard, we were prepared and had no major incidents. Which was nice. The weekend was busy as all get-out.

If I ever end up with a part time retail job in addition to warehousing, I'd want to do .com orders. I've a friend at Target that does them and it allows her to be away from the general public most of the time - my kind of retail work. I DO miss working for Kohl's, though. Last few years I'd help them open new stores in the area doing the signage, fixture set ups, and in-store receiving. Fast paced, time sensitive, and away from customers.

Finally enrolled for college after putting it off for months over my mental health. Start in February. Now to prepare myself for that. Only part time, didn't want to be overwhelmed. Will look at advancing to full-time course after.
