Some of the birds he's turned into are way smaller than albatrosses. In Homefront he does a Seagull - they typically weigh 4 or 5 ounces.

But if his mass is fixed, he must be lighter even than this. When he turns himself into a glass on a tray, Rom picks it up like it's no heavier than normal glasses. So no more than, what, an ounce or two?

The thing is, most of the time his mass appears to be the same as a person's. For instance, he pushes people around now and again. He wouldn't be able to do that if he didn't have a good chunk of mass - no matter how strong he is, if he shoved somebody it would just shove him away from them. Hell, when he blew himself up to large size he'd be in danger of floating away if he was that light.

The mass goes to the same place Megatron's mass goes when he turns into a gun. ;)

So, Founders... because Fuck you, Einstein.

Alright, wacky theory.

You may have heard of Flatland - a hypothetical 2D space. It's inhabited by beings which are flat shapes - circles, squares, triangles.

The only way a flatlander has to tell what shape another flatlander is, is to watch it rotate. If a guy rotates and never changes shape, he's a circle. If you see four points go by, he's a square. And so on.

Now drop a sphere through flatland. To a flatlander it looks like a circular guy... but one who swells larger, then shrinks smaller again. At any one time, they only see a small fraction of the whole.

So what if Odo and the Founders are multi-dimensional beings? What if what we see is just the bit of them that sticks through out dimension out of a fourth spatial one? Maybe we only see the size and mass of the bit that's poking through our dimension, and Odo can pull more of himself in or shove more out, to alter the volume and mass he has to work with.

Just a thought.

Physics? If he were that light he wouldn't be able to grapple with people as we have seen.

It occurred to me that I started this post over 9 years ago, and it may be my most enduring legacy that doesn't start with a newspaper headline "Local man..." :D

It's also I am willing to bet the most common post that we all post in statistically speaking.
