They could have been used prior to the Kelvin.

I think his point was that they were still in use on the Enterprise herself in the original pilot for TOS.

Personally I'm well over the lasers thing. They were in the pilot, a reference in TNG, they're not exactly a bedrock of the franchise.

Still it would have been nice for Abrams to put TNG/TOS canon into the movie as oppossed to ENT.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Honestly, I like it this way. I like it a lot more than pretending that for the next 250 years the best we'll be able to do is lasers.

lasers have some temendous potential, plus I don't mind that it took us 250 years to discover and perfect the rapid nadion effect considering we don't even know what a nadion is at this point in time.

Well, lasers were also referred to in The Menagerie. I can accept The Cage as not being considered cannon.......but it was backed up.

FYI, the Kelvin has been added to the Federation ships list here.

Sweet. What class are you going to call the new Enterprise?

Hmmm, good question. I suppose going by site policy it should be the Enterprise class.

I dont like the sound of that. Its kind of confusing. How about name it after its first captain, the Pike class?
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

We don't make up arbitrary class names unless we absolutely have to. The rule has always been that we go with an official class name if there is one (wherever it comes from), and if not we go with the name of the first ship of the type seen. Only if there's no official name and no individual ships named do we make one up (the Frankenstein ships for example).

I would go with the Constitution as we know that's what it's an alternate version of. Startrekmovie.com calls it a Constitution class heavy cruiser, which I think we should treat as a backstage source.

Yup. Go into the dossiers section and select the Enterprise, on the first page is some text giving it's class, top speed ( Warp 8 ) etc.

You could call it the Magna Carta... alternate version of the Constitution... get it? :P
I do like Enterprise Heavy Cruiser. As opposed to Enterprise Cruiser?
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.
