The planet has a base on it which starfleet wants to capture due to getting information and the fact they have a lot of prisoners/hostages.

So we are landing an army. A rather large one which Monroe is part of. It is being carried in the strike force Rochey and Monroe are heading up.

Yes... That was my point. The Daystrom isn't part of that particular taskforce, so won't be landing troops, or using the Prototype/ACVs, will it?

Oh right sorry.

We wont be using them unless some happens to warrent their use like evac.

Well I was just wondering if we could think up something so that they could be used. A landing opportunity like this seems like a prime opportunity to use them.

I was thinking of having the Brotherhood install gun emplacements on some astroids like more solid defence platoforms. Also a few astroids with caves that can act as landingpads for their fighters.

Seems like a nice idea to land an ACV special forces fireteam (4 people) on each asteroid to go in, take out the 'canon', and go to the landing zone. It's like the SAS!

It would be cool but logically there is little point. Why go through that trouble when we can just blast them. Shields want do them any good sine we can pretty much hit anywhere on the astroid and it will blow up.

The only reason to land a unit is if we want to capture something.

Maybe we can make a logical point, then. Perhaps simply that we'd rather take prisoners for any information. If a fireteam is going in there to capture themselves some prisoners anyway, they might aswell disable the canons too. In fact, they could comandeer them and we could essentially 'DS9' them and take them over so that the Brotherhood couldn't come back because we're, quite literally, using their own weapons against them.

I think the commandering thing is the best idea. We'll make it so they have some really strong guns on the astroids. Like the equivant of XIV phasers or something. Our fire teams capture them and turn them on the enemy fleet.

I doubt they would be keeping prisoners on the astroids so rescue is a bit fo a stretch unless they were there to work on the weapons.

No, I mean we'd take them (the enemy) prisoner.

Oh right. Doable, but still easier to blow them up. However if we throw that in with capturing the gun it would work.

Well, I posted. I figure my characters can serve as a sort of third-party to the main plot, and the only real focus will be during the battle with the weapons platforms. I sure hope I'm doing this right...
Nice first post.

Do you want to draw up some basic stats for the defence platforms so the rest of us know what is firing at us. I though you could maybe give some of them cloak and have them appear once our fleet is engaged letting them hit us unaware or something.

So the Lakota class is your flagship not the Nebual? I wasnt sure which one you were taking.
Thank you, thank you. I get to make the platform stats? Sweet. I'll get on that tonight.

Yeah, I picked the Lakota because I figured it'd be more interesting from a story perspective. I wrapped the Captain's involvement in the project into the story after I decided to go with it.

Length: 70.8 meters
Beam: 70.8 meters

Mass: 102,000 metric tons.

Armament: 7x rapid-fire disruptor cannons, total output: 35,000 Terawatts.
2x torpedo tubes equivalent to standard Starfleet photon torpedo tubes with 600 rounds.
1x Isolytic subspace weapon launcher with 5 rounds.

Defense Systems: Standard shield system, total capacity 900,000 terajoules.
Standard Duranium single hull plus 50 cm high density armor.
Low level structural integrity field.

Strength Indices -
Beam firepower: 700
Torpedo firepower: 750
Weapon range and accuracy: 500
Shield strength: 333.3
Hull Armor: 5003
Speed: -
Combat maneuverability: 10

Overall Strength Index: 859.3

Basically, I'm thinking of something that doesn't require a lot of power, and makes up for it with massive armor. They could probably do without the subspace weapons and still be formidable; I just added them because, well, why wouldn't they use them on ODP's if they have the technology?

If anyone thinks they're too strong, I could tweak them.

EDIT: without the subspace weapons, the overall strength is 723.

It seems a little strong but I guess you can either have fewer numbers of strong ones or larger numbers of weak ones. Since your the one destroying them its up to you. We are also going to have around 5 big astroid guns now.

Ok so my counter to the subspace weapons is basically a modified torpedo that sends out a spray of anti matter capsules that acts like flak absorbing the rift formed by the weapons.

It only works about 70% of the time letting them still have a advantage and the power to hit our big ships while not totally destroying us like they would usually.

They can be fired out of a normal tube so its no extra work for Thorin to do. I'm not sure if his character will fire them or mine since they are torpedoes but my station being scince will have the sensor readings to best react to them.
