What the frick? I meant ambush the groups on the planet. Starfleet guys shot by Tholian weapons, that would be enough to start the ball rolling.
This isn't a ship of technical experts here, it's a ship of renegades who were formerly civilians. They may well not have had the technical expertiese to do that.
Aren't transponder's computer controled? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to reprogram this stuff.

No I didn't. Sorry if you misread. They were going to watch the battle. They were also the ones who got word to the Tholians explaining the 'set up'. But I didn't post that little bit so that's a plastic fact since it was never actually posted. However I did post that they were going to watch the Federation ships get destroyed.
Yeah, clearly they'll be able to ambush a fleet of Tholian and Federation warships which outmatch them massively, and will somehow not bother to let anyone know what attacked them.
Their goal was to continue to do this. Would also add to the natural suspicion on why one vessel searching for a 'missing crew' suddenly became two vessels who are taking their damn sweet time finding this crew.

Honestly what I was hoping for was the Tholians and Federation ships open fire. The Bangalore is destroyed maybe one of the Tholian ships destroyed. The Daystorm boarded and a tough fire fight takes place in which M'Real and maybe Boush and Rochey fight side by side, putting aside M'Real's biggotry (maybe) and the characters grow. After a search of the ship, confiscation of the logs, the Tholians are content enough to let the Daystorm return to Federation space. Where the next mission would be to track down who almost started a war.

Something like that would have been cool imo.

Transponders are also encoded.

Oh, well, my mistake then.

And war breaks out because Tholian forces attacked a Federation task force.
After a search of the ship, confiscation of the logs, the Tholians are content enough to let the Daystorm return to Federation space.
So....after blowing up one ship, and losing one of their own, they're just going to say "sorry, guess we were wrong" and leave without any long term effects happening? Can you imagine if a Russian task force attacked a pair of US ships like this? There'd be chaos.

Well, since I've veered things off course, I can delete my post if you'd prefer. Granted, I stretched plausability a bit, but I really don't see how any situation like this could realitically come about without any after effects.
Still, that said, this is a game, so I suppose reality can take the back seat if you'd prefer. If you'd rather I delete my post and go about things a different way, feel free to say so.

The planet with the wreck on it. We go down there. get ambushed by unseen guys. The blasts have a tholian signature.

Well the idea is that the situation would be brought down from the brink of a war. It was just an idea I don't mind really. But Sum of All Fears was based on that exact senerio :P

Up to you if you want to delete the post or not, we just need a different plot mover if you decide not to delete the post.

I'll remove it. I seem to have inadvertantly stalled progress, and just started an argument.

OK, so... the Fifth Column (love the name, Monroe) is still out there, and we still have a distress call coming from a grounded civvie freighter, right?

Okay, post now gone.
So, at the moment we're about to come under attack by a Tholian battlegroup that has us severely outmatched, with a hidden ship nearby, and a wrecked freighter floating around us.

Does the freighter still have it's antimatter fuel?

I'd imagine the attackers would have stripped the ship of anything useful, fuel included. I'd imagine it's just a floating hulk with nothing useful in it.

Unless they had to run off before being caught?

They would have had plenty of time, quite likely. We were the first to arrive on the scene, and we weren't exactly super-close. I'd say they'd have about an hour to grab what they want. I'd imagine fuel and ammo would be top on that list.
