Third of the power? Not really. Nimitz class carriers carry, 24 F/A-18E/F, 22 to 24 F/A-18A/C, 4 E/A-6B or 5 E/A-18G, 4 E-2s, and assorted SH-60s.

More like 2/3 or 3/4 the power, on 2/3 the displacement.

So on ship with 40 aircraft and a crew of 1600 that's taking 9 years to build while still being smaller then a Nimitz... Whats the point of this thing again?

Whats "dumb" is reading my statement questioning the expense v use/ability of something and then treating it as though I said something totally different.

The UK can't afford a Nimitz quality based fleet which is why I brought up the use of jeep carriers. Smaller, cheaper and easier for a smaller power to use.

We already had what were essentially modern jeep carriers in the Invincibles. They're far from useless but the new ones will offer vastly greater capability. As but one example, having one sat off the coast of Libya right now would have made operations there a hell of a lot easier.
