Thank you for the explanation. And the offer...cause I can't be arsed to bother at the moment...

No problem.
Anyway, I'll have the next bit up by tonight if no one has any objections.

Rochey hit it pretty much on the head. Except the Fifth Collumn isn't wanting to help out in the battle they're just wanting to start a war between the Assembly and the Federation thinking in the end the Federation would win.

Indeed it should.

Why didn't the Tholians attack? If a ship of federation origin decloaked wouldn't the Tholians assume that it was a trap and the starfleet ship was trying to surrond them? They'd attack, maybe retreat under the assumption of othe cloaked ships in the area.

Perhaps because we didn't come to the other ship's aid, and had just convinced them that we weren't the culprits? A Tholian officer informed them of their status in the area, and another ship decloaks (remember, Fed ships don't have cloaks) behind them with a weapons payload that exactly matched what they were looking for. Thus they turned and attacked it. When we didn't help the other ship, their suspicions that we had nothing to do with them was confirmed.

And it had quantums...the Freedoms, I don't think, aren't exactly the most likely candidate for Quantums.

How would you know if they don't have cloaks? If a ship has a cloak we would be able to see it.
(This is joking of coarse.)
But, I don't think they would turn their back on the other two, far more powerful ship. They'd probably erect a tholian web around them until they could confirm the story.
And the Daystrom beamed off several people from the other ship. The Tholians would become more suspicious of the Daystrom.
I don't mean to poke holes, but from what I've seen from Rochey(the character) and what a thinking military person would do the situation just doesn't feel realistic.

As far as they were concerned, the story
was confirmed. A Tholian officer, formerly an officer on an Assembly warship, informed them they had the authority to be there, and were investigating such incidents. Doubtless the crews could have checked up their story fairly quickly.
Also, ensnaring a couple of Federation ships would be an antagonistic action, which they had just barely avoided.
And the Daystrom beamed off several people from the other ship. The Tholians would become more suspicious of the Daystrom.
The Tholians had left by then. They gutted the ship, and, convinced there was no one left alive with the whole ship ablaze, decided to go back to wherever they had originaly been stationed.

What was out of character for Rochey? Him using diplomacy is a bit odd, yes, but I doubt he'd rather be blown up by his own race over a mis-understanding.

Well, I was saying if Rochey were any indication of his species, they would have been extreamly suspicious of the situation. Rochey doesn't seem to trust anyone except the Breen officer, and he's been serving on the ship for a while. If the other Tholians were as suspicious as Rochey, then I just don't see this situation as realistic. Rochey doesn't trust people he's been working with for weeks, but the warships haven't even seen the Daystrom before.

I agree with blackstar here. It was very anti-climatic. Why'd the Freedom ship even attack? What good would a suicide attack do?
