i'd always done so that it was in vogue stylization. different periods had different popular styles etc.
Yeah, I loved how DS9 seemed to imply that in Trials and Tribbleations when Dax went on about the classic 23rd century tricorder design with chrome highlights and all. I can just see Sulu pushing his coloured buttons thinking "touchscreens... they're so 2350s..."
Yeah, i'd always picked up on that :D

Like I said, it's easy enough to explain away stuff like the design of the bridge.

Is it a reboot, Graham? I haven't heard anything to suggest that, thought admittedly I've only been reading the odd bit about the movie. If it's a reboot then I'll probably be a lot more forgiving of any continuity errors.

It's a Re-imagining, from what I've heard.

From what I understand, there's a time travel element involved causing some sort of divergent timeline where the movie and subsequent sequels will take place. Literally a "New" Trek. New, but with the spirit of the old it seems. This doesn't make established Trek canon any less valid, it just neatly sidesteps whatever issues they would normally have w/ a prequel.

Which, I have to admit, is preferable to simply trodding all over everything that's come before. *cough*ENT*cough*

I don't think I've seen anything officially saying "reboot", but with them all together at that point in time I can't see that they mean it to be part of the established continuity.

Well, even if it isn't a reboot, the time-travel angle allows us to explain away most inconsistancies due to the "alternate universe" theory of time-travel.

My hopes for this movie are improving.
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

Even if this starts a new time line due to the timeline being messed up it would still have to follow ENT canon...
