Glad I found this in the thread. I loved this movie and book as a teen. Upon watching again last week... oh man, talk about a movie with NO direction to an outsider. I could not imagine viewing this without a detailed knowledge of the series.

See, I never found it that way... although to be fair, I can't claim to have ever seen it without having read the books (Frank's books at least.) Then again, I like most of Lynch's weirdest shit, so take my opinion FWIW.

I am all for Lynch, especially Blue Velvet. I just found Dune to be pretty messy and convoluted, from an outsider's perspective. I just imagine myself hating it if I didn't love the book.
