I know they both came out before 2000, but Terminator II and Jurassic park spring to mind for me.

I think that Avitar will fade into obscurity. The story is extremely unoriginal (Dances with Wolves in space, plus dozens of other movies). The acting was... questionable. All that it had going for it was the 3D, which is was just the new toy to the viewers... now movie watchers are done with the toy and just plying with the box.
Classics are usually mid-level movies that simply never fade away.
