Nominate the coolest ships in sci fi

Taelon mothership from Earth: Final Conflict. Looks like it's made of glass.

Hmm. Define "ship". Does the DeLorean count?

And on a similar note, there's the other (non dimensionally transcendental) time travelling phone box:

No, to be a ship it must be able to fly in space.Captain Seafort wrote:Hmm. Define "ship". Does the DeLorean count?
Second the B5 Starfury. They actually asked NASA what would be the ideal design for a ship to maneuver in space and were told "an X shape with engines on the end of each arm to give maximum torque for turning, with the engines studded with attitude jets." JMS was horrified that anything even remotely like an X would be accused of being an X Wing ripoff, and set out to make his X fighter as little like the X Wing as possible. I think it's a fantastic design.

Excellent choices there. I totally forgot about the Hammerhead. Naturally the refit Enterprise has to be on every 'best' ship list.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Well, for me...
The Hammerhead starfighter from Space:Above and Beyond:
The X-wing from Star Wars. I know it's 'famous', but it's still dead awesome.
The Omega-class destroyer from Babylon five:
The starfury, natch. 8)
And, well... the refit Enterprise:

Thank you. I know most of them are probably a bit more 'obvious' than what Graham was looking for, but they still deserve some mention.McAvoy wrote:

Could Thunderbird 2 fly in space? If not, this fella:

I think this ugly thing is called Nell, from Battle Beyond the Stars. I expect zero votes for this ballsack.

The Protetor from Galaxy Quest. Unlike some other starships, this beauty can take a beating and not immediately explode.
And for those of you who want your spaceship to be be a Weapon of World Destruction, here is Lexx from "Lexx."

I'd say something pithy, but I'm too busy laughing at this thing.Nutso wrote:I think this ugly thing is called Nell, from Battle Beyond the Stars. I expect zero votes for this ballsack.
