I've only just gotten to work on it now.

I couldn't find anything that told me which audio driver I currently have, so I just went onto Realtek's website and started downloading the first one I saw that said it worked for Vista. I'll let you guys know how it goes in a few minutes.

Save a copy of that driver then and keep it on your computer in case you ever need it again.

All sorts of things: hanging out with the wrong crowd, drug or alcohol abuse, emotional trauma in early childhood...

It sometimes virus related, or it can just be something you installed that interacted with the sound card drivers and then the sound card doesn't recognize that those are still it's drivers because they are so different from when they were originally used.
