I dunno.. I mean, making fun of Star Trek fans because of their tendencies to correct the mistakes of other isn't restricted to the Trek fanbase. Imagine the number of people correcting me within a minute of a post in the giantitp.com forum when I mentionned that Avatar : the Last Airbender was an "anime". I mean, I made a 9-paragraph review of the movie, and the only thing they could say was "it's not an anime!"

See the reaction of any enthousiast sport fan when you completely report wrong your sportsfacts about his favourite sport/team. He will be all over you, pointing out the mistake, and how stupid you are for not checking it up.

Taking potshots at Trekkies is easier because we are more marginal, but any freaking fanbase react the same way.

This is also a case where they had a Trek article, made a minor mistake, and Trekkies took them to task for it. This isn't an out of the blue jab at Trekkies for a cheap laugh.

If a news company publish something making a minor mistake about baseball or basketball or football, be sure you'd have raging fans taking them to task for it.

He's right though. My roommate is like that. In a careless moment, I referred to the Chicago Bears superbowl win as the '86 Bears. He jumped all over me, as they were still the '85 Bears, just that the superbowl was in February of '86. And that's just to name one instance

He was right to do so. The '86 team to win a Super Bowl was the NY G-men, with Phil Simms throwing 22 for friggin' 25 in the big game.
