Jeez, was I the only one (at least in my teen years) who used his deviant engineering skills to build water pipes and steamboats instead of weapons?

I learned how to make water/glass grenades and rock cannons with bug spray in the Boy Scouts.

And I used to cut out all but one of the bottoms of 6 or 7 Campbell's soup cans, tape them together with duct tape, drill a hole in the side of the bottom one with its bottom still intact, stick a tennis ball in the open end, spray isopropyl alcohol (90%) in the drilled hole, light it through the drilled hole, and watch the tennis ball fly out of the cannon at what seemed to be Mach speeds. Easily capable of knocking kids off of bikes, breaking windows, causing nasty bruising, etc. If launched upward, it would fly up to around 200 feet in the air. Good times.
