I did enjoy the conceit of the Vulcans. Most of them have always had an attitude of quiet, smug, superiority. Nice to see them not-so-quiet about it. I also enjoyed seeing that Spock does indeed have some feelings.

That for me has to have been one of the greatest moment's of the movie. The arrogant vulcan child, credit to the young actor, was played flawlessly to my image of what vulcan children would be like: Firmly inserted into their own rectum.

I'd imagine that's like asking "When does a human learn to throw a punch." The answer varies for each individual, and some might never learn the right way.
I think a better analogy would be "when does a human learn judo?" Throwing a punch is easy - any drunk can do it. Effectiveness, and doing more damage to the victim than the puncher's fist is another matter, but the basics are simple, and even a badly-thrown punch will do damage if it connects.
With a nerve pinch, on the other hand, unless it's got right, what sort of damage will it do? It'll hurt, but it won't drop the victim the way a properly executed one does.

Come on now, be honest.
