You didn't ask if Starfleet really had one, you only asked if it was canon. It was in one ep, so it is canon.

Why would a hospital ship be in a mass fleet battle? You'd think they'd hang till its over to protect the patients onboard.

Some claiming the Falcon would be destroyed if a Trek ship so much as looked at it sideways, and some claiming it looking at the cube sideways was the reason it blew up, no doubt.
