Yeah - for once, Enterprise got something to make MORE sense than it did before.

mikey,if you watch 'the tholian web' again, the tholian vessel discharges two shots(pinkish clouds) at enterprise, causing minimal damage to the hull but harms the engines, following this,at half power, spock orders the enterprise to phaser the webspinner, which becomes disabled, and then a further webspinner arrives, and the webspinning process begins........

Shocking just how crap Tholian ships really are.

Yeah, a pity.

Thanks for the tip, 'Hewer. I will check it out. However, the fact remains that even at .25 impulse, a starship could have gone to the Tholian homeworld; initiated peace talks; broken down those peace talks; destroyed the Tholian capital; and returned, before the web would have been complete (using the TOS example.)

I have always had great interest in the Tholians as a non-humanoid, non-organic (in the human-centered organic chemistry sense) sentient species. I would have liked to see them put up a better showing.

Agreed,as usual mikey.
I much preferred the tholian webspinners' phasers/disruptors/whatever in enterprise 'crewman down'(i think it was called) to the original series;nin 'the tholian web' the ship was reported to have been crewed by one individual, so perhaps a swarm of coordinated webspinners utilising that beam weapon would be effective....

it would be great if the new star trek film, involved the tholians, rather than just mentioning them......

That's actually implied in the Ent episode when multiple tholian ships quickly project a web around the mirror Enterprise. I think there was an earlier episode were the Tholians might have used conventional weapons, but I haven't seen that episode in a while(that one with the TARDIS-like timeship that the Tholians and Suliban both want). I'm guessing the Tholians normally use swarm tactics and that the TOS episode was just the E-nil catching a scouting ship off guard.

Heh. It would be great if ANYTHING about it made sense.

Of course, so everyone knows what kind of hypocrite I am, I've been bashing the ideas I've heard of Star Trek XI all over this forum; of course, when it comes out, I'll be there waiting like a Christian kid on Christmas morning...

yes think it was called 'crewman down'ENT
agreed with your idea about TOS, because spock said that the tholians were regularily annexing systems, so did t'pol in ENT

It would be interesting to see more of the tholians. Although I find their non canon background very odd.

As I said, the Tholians fascinate me, although I have little knowledge of any non-canon background info. What should I check out?
