Re: Wepons Systems of the Extreme Future!
It's a good paper wepon, however in practice it'll be a much different thing.
it's more likely that it'll turn a chunk of the ship into anti-matter. Then there's the distance you'll have to fire it from. Then there's the idea of how do you generate the beam and sustain it's effect and power accross the void.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

That's what I was thinking. Still good and destructive, though.Lt. Staplic wrote:it's more likely that it'll turn a chunk of the ship into anti-matter.
Also my point.Lt. Staplic wrote:Then there's the distance you'll have to fire it from.
Standard 'Trek answer: magnetic constriction.Lt. Staplic wrote:Then there's the idea of how do you generate the beam and sustain it's effect and power accross the void.

Re: Wepons Systems of the Extreme Future!
yes those were two very good points.
but how do you carry a beam accross the void at that distance that will convert matter into anti-matter?
it seems kind of tricky.

I've come up with a weapon:
multi-burst torpedo (burst fire torpedo):
when fired the tactical officer can either set a 1)distance from the target 2)time after launch or 3)manually activate it
after activation the 6 torpedoes will detach from each other causing a massive pounding on the ships hull/shields

An airburst, in other words.
Why do all the great ideas for 'Trek weaponry come from currently extant, RL weapons?

Re: Wepons Systems of the Extreme Future!
How can something seem tricky when it's completely made up in the first place?!
In any case, it works through the trans-perambulation of cosmic antimatter. Which as we all know operates across extreme ranges. So there.

idk, I just have this set up in my mind where they have to be explainable by modern physics/Trek Physics aid.
Bob, isn't that basicly the exact same thing as a burst fire torpedo tube except making the torpedo more complex rather than the pod where one can fix malfunctions.

I like it! I could see that, ESPECIALLY coming from a burst fire tube. You could put dozens of torps in the air at once!bob wrote:I've come up with a weapon:

Re: Wepons Systems of the Extreme Future!
What about mixing the phased cloak and torpedo's to allow the cloak to pass through the hull of the enemy and explode inside. it could be programmed to just explode inside any void it passes through over a certain size or next to their warp core for maximum damage.
Not sure how shields would effect the phased cloak field as we've never seen it on screen but why let that get in the way of an idea
(I know I suggested it somewhere else on forum in the middle of a thread but I still like the idea)

That would be an incredibly expensive weapon, and would probably be difficult to build. I doubt that the costs outweigh the benefits.

I second rochey's motion...though if the Federation is Communist it won't cost anything

It would still cost them in resources.

I know, I just thought I'd push the communist button.
