Is there actually an anti-pirate ship in the fleet, or do they use fighters for that?

There are low end patrol ships; tiny little things with long range and light weapons. When something heavier hitting is needed there are Corvettes, not powerful by naval standards but more than a match for any pirate ship or ships. The
Kavanaugh class is an example of a Corvette, I have a patrol ship in the works. It will be something along the lines of the Australian
Armidale class patrol boat

Plus, pirates are hardly going to have tech to match military ships, even if they are of equal tonnage.

Unless said pirates have technology several million years ahead of the other guys. I can see pirates of larger empires going into smaller worlds' lands and stealing their resources.
