What about Lt. Reginald Barclay and his Holo-Addiction? It might not be drugs/alcohol, but it's still an addiction like gambling. Some say that games like World of Warcraft are the precursor to Holo-Addiction..
(You can't take a synth Holo-Trip can you?)

Well said. I was thinking of that. And think about it: Fantasy as reality! Who needs narcotics when you just modify reality for semi-real. Scary.

Reminds me of that Futurama Episode with the Propaganda movie against dating robots. "Gee crossing the street is a lot of work to do to make out when I have my fembot here with me already."
