Well, a thousand pages of posts. ;) I think we passed a thousand posts a while ago...

Damn it Ian, I've been eyeing that milestone for a while now. :P

Congratulations and good luck to Teaos and Uzume respectively.

Well, I’ve got back from a lovely holiday to the Isle of mull, in Scotland. It was nice to have a relax and even better to return home to the news that I've gotten into university, so come September I'll be off to study Geology in South Wales!

Only eleven away from 15k. Or ten, depending on which counter you're looking at. :?

Those last few pages took awhile to tick over.

I beg your pardon, Griffin. I suppose considering your chosen specialty, a proper congratulatory message would be, "You rock!"

Uzume, congrats! Great name, too!

My wife and I are in the last stages of repairing the extensive dry rot we found on our 1986 Excel 22' travel trailer we bought last October. We bought it at night while it was raining, and so we didn't notice the big crack in the front where the floor meets the front wall until the next morning, when we could see daylight through it, and even then, we didn't realize it was dry rot until we did some research. The guy we bought it from said all we needed to do was slap on some metal flashing and it would be good as new, but he was wrong. So we completely removed the front walls, including the window, and part of the right side wall forward of the door including that window , and using what was left of the original frames as a reference, we completely rebuilt the walls using new wood, new screws, new polystyrene insulation, and lots of Liquid Nails, replaced part of the floor at the front by the hitch, and used butyl tape (an extremely tacky adhesive putty that comes in rolls and is used as a sealant) around the window frames before we installed them. I even used my Dremel to create channels in the walls for the wiring before we installed them. Most of the stuff we bought at Home Depot, and the specialty stuff we bought at a local RV dealer here. There actually is original metal flashing around the entire bottom of the camper so I need to replace what we removed as the original is just too bent out of shape to be reused. Then the trim pieces go back on, the lights get silicone caulked, and we'll be done. Then we'll take it to the RV repair to have them rewire it and give it an RV plug, which is circular and about the size of a 220 volt plug, instead of the "flat 4" 4 pin plug on there now. The good news is the roof is solid, no leaks or sponginess when walking on it, and all of the appliances- the oven and stovetop, the water pump, the fridge- work great, and she can run off of 12 volt electricity (she has her own battery) or 110 volt household current, just literally plug her in. Once it's all completed, we were going to take her out to a place just south of Lake Almanor called Butt Lake (no I'm not kidding), but the fire they call the Chips fire is burning right in that area and is at 50,000 acres so far and is only 32% contained, and they expect total containment by the end of the month. Oh, well, I guess we could take it to Mendocino or Monterey Bay.

Wow, sucks to make a purchase like that and then find a problem that big. There used to be an axiom about not buying a car at night. Anyhow, did you get any tar paper (or similar) up between the frame and exterior wall? Fresh-water and grey-water tanks intact? Don't overpay for having a 7-pin plug installed - whoever is putting your hitch on your tow vehicle should throw that in, or at least do it for you really cheap.

The fresh water tank is brand new, and the grey water tank is in very good condition. I didn't even think of using tar paper, that would be a really good idea! The only thing between the frame and the fiberglass skin is this thin sheet of wood laminate, and we decided to keep it close to original, but tar paper would have been great. :bangwall:
