It does for the most part, with running slaps taking the place of bunts for the older girls and flat ground replacing a pitcher's mound. I guess if the last time she reached base was ruled an error, it would have been properly called an at-bat with no hit so she would have been 2 for 3. In the field, the girls rotate positions at 7 and 8 years old; her first put-out came playing third with runners on first and second, and she picked up a grounder and stepped on the bag - 5 unassisted. Her second came playing the pitcher's position and she caught a pop fly - 1 unassisted. She almost turned a DP, too, 'cause the runner on first took off but her first baseman dropped the throw.

You said you thought softball and baseball shared terminology but then saw that you were wrong. I was just pointing out that you weren't wrong. In baseball, when the same player fields a ball and makes the put-out, it's called "unassisted." Hence, if the pitcher makes a put-out, it's scored as "1 unassisted;" if the catcher does, it's "2 unassisted," if the first baseman does it's "3 unassisted," etc. The positions in baseball/softball are labelled as follows:

1 - pitcher
2 - catcher
3 - 1B
4 - 2B
5 - 3B
6 - SS
7 - LF
8 - CF
9 - RF

I think that's an affectation of slow-pitch or "beer league" softball. ASA/fast-pitch has, AFAIK, the same 9 positions as baseball. My daughter's team, being an eight-years and under team, has the coaches pitching (for now,) but is part of a fast-pitch organization and uses those rules in order to teach the girls the game. Stealing allowed, no leads, dropped-third-strike rule, etc.

Sat. - make-up taekwondo class (my son was sick last week) then daughter's soccer game.
Sun. - softball game (away, of course.)
Mon. - softball clinic after school
Tues. - soccer practice after school
Wed. - taekwondo class
Thurs. - pitching clinic after school, then first practice for summer rec league softball after that
Fri. - taekwondo class, then practice for travel softball after school
Sat. - home softball game then soccer game
Sun. - green belt test

Well, I would say rather "be prepared." Don't get me wrong, it's a joy to see my little guy perform his pumsae (katas) or hapkido locks properly, and to see my daughter remember to cover a base correctly based on where the runners are and where the ball is hit; you just have to understand that there's no such thing as being a sometime parent.
