Through the river may have been the wrong thing to say, but nearby the river runs parallel to the road and the period of heavy rain hear had caused it to spill into the road.

Makes more sense now. Yes, being pretty damn close to sea level, I see countless drivers doing exactly the wrong things trying to go through flooded areas - people who should know better.

I have seen many idiots driving in heavy rain like it's nothing. I remember during a snowstorm seeing some idiot pass me like I was standing still when I was doing perhaps 35. I saw the same idiot looking for help when his truck was upside down in a ditch a few miles up.
On the other side, some people are too careful. This morning there was some light rain and I was behind a few cars doing a good 15 MPH below the speed limit. There was nothing I could see that was causing them to do this and it appeared the three cars were not together.
I think weather is directly proportional to the cube of driver stupidity.

I've seen both extremes, especially people who think that 4-wheel-drive will help them stop in poor-traction conditions.
The worst offenders, in my eyes, are the ones who slow down when driving through especially deep puddles - some even almost stop at the deepest parts, which anyone with any sense will tell you is the
worst thing to do.

I have seen that too but I also seen people think they can speed through deep puddles too. Depending on how low your vehicle sits, either you will be fine or you might as well hit a brick wall. I have personally done this, hitting a deep lake in the middle of the road at full speed. But I didn't see it until it was too late. If felt like I hit a brick wall. Luckily the only damage done was dasmaging my car horn. But it fixed itself after a week somehow.

Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law, Mikey.
And yes, I too have seen my fair share of morons while driving in inclement weather.

Pardon the double post, but had to get this out. I am
finally going to counseling this Wednesday. I'm a bit... nervous over it, actually. Never saw a therapist before.

Remember, the only stigma that's attached is the one you may place on it. If you can get past that, you'll see that therapy is just a forum for you to talk openly without fear of judgement and for you to obtain a different insight.

Thanks, Mikey. I'll keep that in mind. I dunno. I'm just a bit of an introvert. But... I shall do my best to not clam up.

Think about it this way: it's a place - perhaps the only place - in which you can rely on confidentiality and a non-judgmental conversation partner.

Hmm, yeah. My mom told me that, too. It's taking a bit of the edge off. And thanks for listening, Mikey. I legit appreciate it.

So... today I cleaned up a oil spill for a friend. He dumped 20 gallons or more of used oil onto his lawn and road and he was up till 1am this morning cleaning it. He had to fly over to NAS Key West (in the Navy) at 8am. He called me to clean it up for him. Took me awhile but I got 98 or 99% of the stain up. Wear and tear on the road will get rid of the rest.
Anyway afterwards, I was driving home and found a bar called Yardhouse. 113 beers on tap with good food. I limited myself to four beers because I am too cheap for a cab and too lazy to walk eight miles (four there and four back).

I... assume it was an accidental oil spill?

Yes.
He collected his used oil to be dumped at some facility. He was loading up his truck and he dropped one of the containers. It spilled everywhere including his truck.
Kitty litter BTW is excellent to get most of it up but leaves a mess. Detergent works well but you have to soak up the water.

Ah, okay. Thanks.
And therapy... damn. I let a lot of that stuff build up for a long time. Too long, too. Felt damned good.
