I don't know; I've been a little pissed lately, but I didn't think it was showing in my posts. I'm trying!

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
Schools go too easy on kids, I was reading so-called high school level books by 3rd grade. I didn't learn division until 4th grade. One year for each basic math function? That's just idiotic. Oh, but don't let your kids read Lord of the Flys. It gave me nightmares...because it was a lousy book.Cpl Kendall wrote:Chakat, this is frankly BS. Children have more than enough to learn in elementry school, the institution is there to teach them the basic knowledge they require for everything else. This is a known fact. Adding in programing to their curriculum before they can fragging read is going to be pointless and add in another level of frustration to the children, the teachers and the parents. The whole point of the school system is to teach the next generation what they require in steps. Teaching a small child to program (for example) just wastes time, thay can't fragging read!ChakatBlackstar wrote:
Oh, sure...let's not learn this stuff because the technical guys got it covered. It's not like they have anything better to do with their times then to custom create crap for your company and then get ******* bitched at because they weren't specific enough about what they wanted or that you took too long. Here's an actual conversation one of my teachers had:
"Well it sure took you long enough."
"What does that mean?"
"Well it took you six weeks."
"Have you, or any of your staff ever created a program like this?"
"No"
"Well, this type of program takes eight weeks to create, and I gave it to you in six."
It's not like a mechanic where they can only fix cars with their jobs, programmers can create useful programs. Yet because of dumbass people aka "average users" prefer to force programmers to do everything. And we can barely keep up with demand resulting in crap that people complain about, but you take too long and they complain about it taking too long. And because the why part of why it's difficult is so complex that the 'average user' thinks that you're just BSing them because they couldn't tell you the difference between ASCII code and C++.
Okay...rant over. Go back to your lives citizens.
I know it's hard for you to accept that the world didn't spring into existance when you were born but give us a break.

Anyway...in other news my computer gave me a scare this morning when I woke up to find it somehow shut itself off. Luckily it didn't take four days to start it up again. Turned out the anti-virus program got an update that automatically restarted the computer while I was asleep.

I think I have carpal tunnel, either that or the arthritis has moved to my wrists.

Sucky. Next time you're at the VA (or whatever the Canadian equivalent is), get 'em to take a look.Cpl Kendall wrote:I think I have carpal tunnel, either that or the arthritis has moved to my wrists.

I'll just go to the family doc and get some x-rays. Seeing as health care doesn't cost me anything, it's easier to go to the GP. Besides, I was injured in Canada so I don't get the full range of benefits. Only whats related to my injuries, I'd need serious spin to get them to cover this.Tsukiyumi wrote:

Right. Somehow I keep forgetting that you guys can just go see a doctor without figuring out which utility bill to not pay this month.

I don't know how much good he'll be able to do, but Obama does have some decent plans to change the situation here. Now he just has to get into office...

Thank G-d we've moved on, because I couldn't even bring myself to reply to some of those points.
Anyway, as far as what's new: I've been exhibiting symptoms of diabetic neuropathy lately, despite my constant efforts to control my blood sugar. The appearance of neuropathy MAY be an indicator of a much shorter-than-average life expectancy. If I'm VERY lucky, I might live to see my daughter graduate college.

Gah. That sucks pretty bad, Mikey. Maybe with more funding to stem-cell research, something will come up long before then.
