BS, it's a legitmate issue. Adults work, it's a simple fact of life. He even mentions it to you.
Yes, but I was addressing your post, not his. You pulled it out in an attemt to make me look foolish, and don't think you're fooling anyone by saying otherwise.
And why wouldn't he let her on his computer? Just passward protect his username so she can't stumble across his porn on accident and badda-bing badda-bang everything's fine.
This may be hard for a non-parent to grasp but some don't want their kids on the net or PC's at all.
Why not? Isn't best to train them at a young age while their minds are still easy to mold, rather then let some stranger at their school teach them the wrong way to do stuff? I don't understand what the problem is with teaching them life skills at an early age.

Pardon me? Anyone older than 6 can tell that adults actually work, hell he talks about work all the time here.

Who cares what the motivations is? If they don't want the kids on the net that is there right as the kids guardian and I don't know what kind of foolishness is going on in your system but the kids up here actually get useful instruction on the PC. A couple hours a week at the lab. And lets face it, on the list of things to learn the net is pretty far down there compared to critical life skills. Like math, literacy etc.

He really doesn't need to try that hard...

Just address the fragging question Chakat: is it or is it not a legitimate concern to have a phone if you work?

I suppose you're one of those people who wants kids to spend more time on math and english while getting rid of classes that teach other important skills, like using a computer, fixing a car, basic safety precautions, or physical fitness. And PC classes don't even cover important stuff like how a computer is assembled and disassembled. Sure english class might teach you what a gerund is, but that won't help your kid when he or she needs to upgrade their hardware or delete a virus. There's also a lot of net etiquite that should be taught so we don't have another generation of n00bs.

Depends on the job

So knowing how to write properly, communicate effectively, be able to handle basic calculations, is not important? I don't need to know how to build a computer for what I want to do. Nor do I kneed to fix a car. Physical fitness & basic safety are important yes. But English and Math are at the heart of everything we do. (Yes, computer too)

Listen to me very carefully: without math and lieracy,
nothing will get done. The ability to build, use and maintain the net and PC''s will vanish and your country will crumble. The US is already coming in pretty low on world education scores as it is.
Computer knowledge is very well and good but you can pick it up at virtually anytime. You probably don't remember a time before the net, it only became available in my last year of school:1996. So you were what,6? But not only did I pick it up easily, so did everyone of my generation, the preceding one and my fathers as well as my grandfathers. I even wound up fixing PC's and using it as a job in the military. All without learning it before I was 18.
Depends on the job
Even McDicks isn't going to hire you if they can't get ahold of you. The net is not used like you wish for the simple fact that if you talk on the phone with someone, you know they got the message. Email can easily be ignored.

Any idiot can read. And math can be done with a calculator(it's how I got through high school). But if you you break down in the middle of nowhere, what are you going to do? Do you know how many people called for help just to change a flat? What moron doesn't know how to change a tire? And do you know how many people call up a professional like geek squad or something to just swap out a few memory chips?

7 actually. Great math skills there cheif. And I'd like to point out that your generation thought a 64-bit console was amazing. Computers are becoming far more complex then your generations antiques.

Unless people are born knowing how to read that argument fails. It is a learned trait and a very difficult one at that, once agin because your not a parent you have no idea how much effort and practice it takes a child to master reading. It takes fragging years.
And math can be done with a calculator(it's how I got through high school).
I can not honestly believe you made that argument. Of course math can be done with a caluculator, that doesn't invalidate the requirement to learn the fundementals of math. Otherwise you don't know what the hell your looking at.
But if you you break down in the middle of nowhere, what are you going to do? Do you know how many people called for help just to change a flat? What moron doesn't know how to change a tire?
Someone who never learned obviously.
And do you know how many people call up a professional like geek squad or something to just swap out a few memory chips?
What is more important? Being able to read and write or being able to swap RAM, without literacy you won't be able to call Geek Squad in the first place.

Oooh, seven. One whole year.
The point that is flying over that brick your using as a skull is that computers are a reletively easy skill to pick up, made even easier by the fact that they are getting less complicated to use.

There is still a notable illteracy rate in the First World, chances are the he has run into a few without knowing it. And it's far more common in rural areas than in a city.

Well, clearly you don't know squat about computers. There are dozens of languages out their, each unique. It takes me an hour to create a simple text editor with Visual Basic. IMO, we should teach our kids computer programming from an early age. Kids pick up languages easier at a younger age.

That is what advanced high school classes or an actual technical college is for, the average user has no need to learn these skills and they certainly aren't more important than basic literacy.

Oh, sure...let's not learn this stuff because the technical guys got it covered. It's not like they have anything better to do with their times then to custom create crap for your company and then get fucking bitched at because
they weren't specific enough about what they wanted or that you took too long. Here's an actual conversation one of my teachers had:
"Well it sure took you long enough."
"What does that mean?"
"Well it took you six weeks."
"Have you, or any of your staff ever created a program like this?"
"No"
"Well, this type of program takes eight weeks to create, and I gave it to you in six."
It's not like a mechanic where they can only fix cars with their jobs, programmers can create useful programs. Yet because of dumbass people aka "average users" prefer to force programmers to do everything. And we can barely keep up with demand resulting in crap that people complain about, but you take too long and they complain about it taking too long. And because the why part of why it's difficult is so complex that the 'average user' thinks that you're just BSing them because they couldn't tell you the difference between ASCII code and C++.
Okay...rant over. Go back to your lives citizens.
