Mt diurnal impression of The Running Man begins. 9:30 am - warm-up. 10:00 am - daughter's first softball game. 11:15 am - daughter's last soccer game. 1:00 pm - bro- and sis-in-law's baby shower (at their house, approx. one hour away.) 1:15 pm - Landsharks and limes.

I've got my dad on the mid-life crisis bug. We're currently hoping to get a used, and mildly rusted version of this:



It's only a tiny 125cc parallel Twin but its a perfect learner. She'll do 65 so that's all dad needs.

I was going to get a 125cc bike rather then a car - would have been a hell of a lot cheaper. Still tempted, but I don't think I'm cut out for one. Much prefer my tiny car.

There are many times I think "I could really go for a car right now". Mainly when it's pissing it down with rain. But that price tag of some £3200-£4000 on insurance per year for something as cheap to insure as a Fiat Seicento or something (group 1 cars), ain't happening. Not when a bike is at most £500-£600.

Thats what I got. Great little cars. Cost me about 1400 for my first years insurance, despite being 31 and having been driving works vans for 5 years. Hoping it'll drop this year but I don't think it will.

I like the idea of having a bike, but didn't feel that comfortable on one when I did my CBT - that said, it was the first time I'd ridden a motorcycle and it lasted a whole 90 mins. Used to be the same about driving, comes naturally now.

I'd only ever ridden down the back of an alley way when I did my CBT. I was petrified of it from that first little bit mainly because I had never ridden an engined bike and, compared to a pushbike, the amount of power at my disposal was insane. My CBT instructor refused to believe I'd only ever done that. Somehow I managed to pick it up very quickly. As I have done with cars, on private roads.

However, I am awful with a clutch.

You've got to start with the clutch early on. Get used to the multitasking right off the bat then driving anything else is easy.

Well, I can't actually legally drive yet, so I will have to wait to do clutch lessons when I'm 17. I can do a bike clutch fine but I struggle with pedals a bit.

To be fair, I was doing it in my grandfather's old Mondeo which has a ridiculously heavy clutch.

Think thats what bothered me about driving a car at first, concentrating on doing everything at once whilst still concentrate on whats going on outside the car as well. I don't multitask well.

I'm at the point that I'm (relatively) sure what the car is going to do, and can control it with very little attention - just leaves me to think about whats happening on the road. Other drivers still scare me sometimes with their antics.

Don't worry about it - a few days hopping round the closest empty car park and you'll be fine.

It didn't help that I was in dad's car. It may only be a small-ish diesel engine but the accelerator is rather...erm...sensitive. I had a habit of making the poor thing rocket off into a ditch.
