WH40K in general pays no attention to what is and isn't dumb, just what is and isn't OH MAN THAT'S SO. COOL.

It always reminds me of DBZ in terms of making me roll my eyes with ridiculous melodrama.

Bloody hell! One: you are correct. It is indeed Cathedral De Notre Dame with impulse engines on and Two: Is there any logic to this creation at all?

Actually, IIRC (although Rochey or Deepcrush could correct me) I don't believe that it has engines.

And the logic is supposedly that it can an act as a giant firing platform as well as a resupply/repair station for more conventional ships.

Those rectangular building wings supposedly extend to all four quarters, and each has an independent battery of some of WH40k's nastiest ship-to-ship weaponry.

The resources that must have been wasted styling it like a cross between 40k and Frankenstein. And fair enough with the engines. I hope the standard ships operated by the Imperial fleet aren't flying castle or something. I hardly think that having Rosette windows and gargoyles are particularly helpfu;.

No, other Imperial ships definitely have a very Baroque, "Gothic" styling philosophy, but aren't actually built to look like cathedrals.

e.g., the Oberon class battleship:

Give me smooth lines of an Akira or the long, slender Sh'raan any day.

Imperial ship design in 40k is very gothic&baroque like some floating Austro-Hungarian Habsburg Chapel (Cisleithanian in space!) but i for one, like the various crenallations, pulpits and vestibules dotted on such ships, am not a fan of smooth ships, as personally, find them rather banal.

Mikey; you're correct that the Ramiles has no engines, though it probably has some sort of maneuvering thrusters.

I've never played any Games Workshop game (amazingly, as they seemed to combine many of my childhood interests and hobbies) but from what I've seen of its products, and especially WH40,000 and it's Space Marines, those ships seem to fit perfectly with it's ethos and design philosophy.

Yes, they do, and I like the ornate designs; the floating Cathedral is just too much for my taste, however.

Agreed. Most Imperium of Man ships are actualy fairly sound designs, in addition to looking good. The Ramiles, however, is just.......
