I really dont know what to think. It just looks so odd.

I am still not liking the bridge. It's just so jarringly different. Maybe it'll look better in the film itself, but it's still annoying me.

To be honest, I don't know what to expect with this. I will probably be able to appreciate it more, because I was never brought up on TOS. TOS, when i watch it, looks pretty damned weird to me. It may be the original, the start, but its not my original.

That said, I will try to compare it and see if this movie does fuck everything over. With an open mind, I shall walk into the theatre.

Good point Reliant. Maybe because I have watch TOS so little and generally dont like it maybe the changes wont bother me as much it does others.

While I'm not much for change... I like the black uniform.

I'm in the same boat as Reliant, exept i was fortunate enough to grow up on TNG instead of Voyager ::sticks-out-toung::, so I wont have the standing expectations to destroy with the TOS movie, and it could be that it's our generation their targeting with this movie, the trekkies that didn't grow up with TOS.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I'm as into TOS as some of the other guys here, but I honestly don't have an issue with this bridge. Color scheme and track lighting are very easy for me to get around.

I am really curious to see if the new Kirk will deliver lines in the manner of William Shatner.

Yeah, the look of the thing is going to be the easiest thing to overlook. There's just no way you can present a movie with '60's technology level in 2008.

I'd hope they'd have TOS-style dials and switches, but differences in color and cosmetics are both easy to explain and easy to overlook.

Aye, it wouldn't be too hard to explain away if its just the superficial look that's different, but if they have touchscreens and stuff it'll look pretty strange. Then again, that's just as easy to explain away.

i'd always done so that it was in vogue stylization. different periods had different popular styles etc.

I don't think they are making this to fit into the existing Trek. It's a reboot, not a new chapter in the original story. I don't think they are making any attempt to fit in with established continuity any more than the new BSG did.

I'm taking a relaxed view of it, to be honest. If they are truly doing a reboot as part of a time travel story then I may well put the whole movie in as a large and elaborate entry in the Temporal section as an alternate timeline. If there's sequels then who knows, maybe a parallel NewDITL site or something.

Either way, gimme a movie that entertains me with some eye candy and a smart script and I will be happy enough.

Yeah, I loved how DS9 seemed to imply that in Trials and Tribbleations when Dax went on about the classic 23rd century tricorder design with chrome highlights and all. I can just see Sulu pushing his coloured buttons thinking "touchscreens... they're so 2350s..."
