Re: USS Stargazer

Just what I was thinking. If you can't stop your enemy taking the ship, then at least make him work hard to find anything of use still in one piece.
IIRC SOP for scuttling in both world wars wasn't by on-board charges, but by ordering a nearby destroyer to torpedo the ship in question. That's certainly true of most of the US and Japanese carriers lost in 1942.Cpl Kendall wrote:BTW: I'm sure Seafort could furnish us with some examples of ships being scuttled in combat by their fellow ships. I know there's at least one in WWII.
Yup, that's what I meant. Looking at my statement, it's less than clear.Captain Seafort wrote:

I don't know how many times I've said this, TNG makes me fall asleep. I wasn't joking. The only way I can make it through one is a pair of caffeine pills. This was one of the few episodes I went through the trouble of staying awake through though...this was a lousy episode. Did Bok? actually think that Picard could destroy the E-D with the Stargazer? At worst it would give the E-D a bloody nose.Watch. The. Show.
To expand on this, maybe Picard set up a program to make the ship self-destruct if captured by the enemy, with the hopes of returning and salvaging the ship. When they came back to recover it and found it absent they'd assume that the ship blew up and that an unknown reactant from the enemy ship eliminated any wreckage. Somehow the Ferengi stopped the self-destruct or somethingFifth, what if Picard ordered the ship to self destruct and it malfunctioned?
*sigh* The Stargazer was explicitly stated to be a threat to the E-D. If you're not prepared to watch the show in question, why the hell are you debating about it?Did Bok? actually think that Picard could destroy the E-D with the Stargazer? At worst it would give the E-D a bloody nose.
No, because that's also stupid. He should have stayed in the area to guarantee that the ship was blown up. Leaving it there is incredibly foolish. You're giving a completely unknown enemy a completely intact Federation ship that they can study. To expand on this, maybe Picard set up a program to make the ship self-destruct if captured by the enemy, with the hopes of returning and salvaging the ship. Is this okay with everyone's sensibilities?
Another huge stretch to explain something sensibly interpreted as a mistake, but it is feasible.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:To expand on this, maybe Picard set up a program to make the ship self-destruct if captured by the enemy, with the hopes of returning and salvaging the ship. If you've got nothing better to do than whinge about TNG and the episode in question then f*ck off and stop arguing the toss about something you evidently have little knowledge of and care less about.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:I don't know how many times I've said this, TNG makes me fall asleep. Then remove your rear end from the thread, why your discussing something you've never seen is beyond me. Perhaps you should limit yourself to "contributing" to discussions that tyou have some knowledge about.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:I don't know how many times I've said this, TNG makes me fall asleep. It's fun for me. A concept that seems to be alien to you.Rochey wrote:*sigh* The Stargazer was explicitly stated to be a threat to the E-D. Or it could've been a clevor and overly elaborate trap that failed. No, because that's also stupid. He should have stayed in the area to guarantee that the ship was blown up. Thank you. I prefer not to leave it at "it was a mistake" since I consider it a lame easy way out.Another huge stretch to explain something sensibly interpreted as a mistake, but it is feasible
Really? Did the 'gazer even do any damage? And what idiot wrote this episode?it was Riker and Data who very strongly implied that the Stargazer was a direct threat to the E-D, not Bok
I believe I said:Then remove your rear end from the thread, why your discussing something you've never seen is beyond me

So you enjoy debating about a show you don't watch and have never watched, resulting in you getting kicked around the forum and made to look llke a fool in virtually every thread? You must be either a masochist or a troll.Blackstar the Chakat wrote:

Which would still be idiotic. There was too much at stake to make some wild gamble on. He should have scuttled the ship then and there to prevent the possibility of it falling into enemy hands.Or it could've been a clevor and overly elaborate trap that failed
