I only know a modern perspective too when it comes to seeing movies and television series that were made well before my time. I can still appreciate The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca and Citizen Kane. I can watch How To Steal A Million and still get a chuckle. Ceasar and Cleopatra? The dialogue is outstanding. I can watch episodes of The Outer Limits (the original) and Twilight Zone and enjoy them. All made well before I was born. Godfathers I & II, both released when I was a kid, highly enjoyable classics. War movies? Best ever made were ones like Patton, Apocolypse Now, MASH, all made when I was a kid and unable to see them until years after their release.

But do you understand the extent. perhaps i am not mature enough to appreciate it. but i simply cant because it is archaic

But its basically cat and mouse. thats been replicated...well...for the last god knows how many centuries.
And you largely miss the points of the episode:

1) Racism. Spock is mistrusted because he apparently resembles the Romulans, who have never been seen before. Racism in the Star Trek universe? Oh my goodness, trouble in paradise!

2) We get a peak into an alien culture. Something hardly ever seen since, we get to see an alien bridge, an alien captain making decisions, conflict from the other perspective. One of the reasons Voyager's Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy was so good was how you saw a peek into how an alien culture works.

3) An actual starship battle. No "reverse the polarity!" crap, we see tactics involved on both sides, the limitations of each side's weapons. So many fights from TNG thru Enterprise culminated in some techno-babblish solution.

I dont find that entertaining or engaging to watch. that does nothing for plot. that is detail, not plot, IMO.

I don't know what your extent is, and maybe you aren't mature enough. But going by your logic you probably have trouble watching the original Star Wars due to it's comparatively primitive special effects. Heck, going by what you are saying you would prefer to watch the new version with it's pretty effects even though Greedo shoots first.

TOS is far from perfect, there are plenty of crappy episodes. But it was the first 'Trek series to involve time travel, transporter accidents, courtroom drama, god like beings, genetically engineered super soldiers, and other 'Trek staples. Anything you have seen in any other Star Trek series was likely done before in TOS, even TAS.

Oh come on. Star wars is actually quite good SFX. its not fantastic, no, but it is bearable. TOS, IMO, is not.

What about B5? The effects on that show are pretty laughable when you look at it now. I play games with better effects than what I saw on B5, yet it's widely considered to be a great show.

again, still superior to TOS.

and had Characters and plot FAR superior to ANY of Trek.

And therein lies my point: poor SFX can be compensated with by good and original plots and characters.

But poor characters and plots cannot be compensated for by good FX. The FX for Insurrection and Nemesis were great.

Exactly, and we all know how they turned out.

Didn't TOS have an episode where they were attacked by a giant space amoeba?

And attacked by the Greek God Apollo?

TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome"

Who attacked whom first is a bit iffy, IMO.
