Why is it a duckbilled platypus? It's not like we have to say that to differentiate them from all the other types of platypus. For that matter, why isn't it just a "platypus," and then "platypus-billed ducks?"

Because locals used to just call it "Duckbill" but when people atarted refering to it by its real name they joined the two to avoid confusion.

So, when people started calling it "platypus," the locals were afraid that they might confuse it with another animal?

Plus we'd have to rent a semi to fight on top of and all that. It really would be a mess, financially.
