Lord these migraines are killing me.

On wednesday afternoon, I went to see my new doctor for a migraine I'd had for over a week. I go in to see him, and he's a little worried, so he takes my vitals. My BP was like 190 over 150 and my pulse was racing from the pain. He got worried and said I was in stroke zone, and started wondering how long I'd been up there. I told him the headache was getting worse every day, so he figured it was up there for at least 24 hours. He gave me six shots. Two at the top of my spine, two in my neck, and two right into the back of my head (sonofabitch that hurt), juiced up my meds to a stronger dose, and ordered me to take two days off work and we weekend to rest. If my BP is still all FUBAR on monday, he wants to admit me to the hospital (his office just called like ten minutes ago).

I strongly recommend NOT letting people stab you in the base of the skull with sharp, pointed, steel objects. I'm still feeling the injection site today.

If the headaches have been positively identified as migraines, what's keeping your doc from prescribing something like Sumatripin?

Taxes get done tomorrow. Either I'll owe the government 56 million dollars... or they'll owe me 26 cents!
Once a year, the gub'mint throws you in a pond with all your money in your pockets. Whatever doesn't get wet, you can keep.

Good thing I wear rubber pants and galoshes, then.

I'm starting to think they diagnosed me with migraines by default. I've got all the symptoms, but I don't react at all to the migraine meds thus far, only pain killers. This new guy thinks this may be the result of some neck trauma in my youth (which I had alot of), which "sets off" the migraine, which is why nothing works.

Damned if I know why but they're getting worse.

Hmm. :? On the plus side, at least the new doc seems to be doing a lot more digging. Here's hoping they get to the bottom of it and sort it out ASAP.

I HATE migraines. I get them too, and I find that Excedrin Migraine, a dark, quiet room, and a cold pack on the back of the neck will get rid of it within an hour. I've done a little research and according to People's Pharmacy, a cold pack on the back of the neck cools the brain stem, which by itself can greatly reduce the pain or eliminate it altogether. I hope this helps ya out, Mark!

Try keeping a food diary for a couple of days, too. True migraines are often set off by a food allergy, even one without any other symptoms.

Do you suppose I could have developed a new one?

Dark chocolate used to be the food trigger. That and certain smells (like hot tar or road construction).

Who knows? It might not have been the dark chocolate per se, but some chemical in the chocolate liquor that's also present in decent quantities in another food.

Sorry about the migraines Mark. Hope they find out what's causing them, or at least a way to relieve your pain.

In other news, after field testing I can verify that ice is slippery and cement steps are hard. So are brick walls.

Sorry to hear that:
a) you had a slip and fall, and;
b) that you needed field testing to learn about ice and concrete.

Nitpick: she said "verify", not "learn". Don't you know that experimentation is at the heart of all good science? :P *Awaits the inevitable from Mark and/or Tsu*

More seriously RF, it's good to know that you're alright by-and-large (at least I presume so, since you're here).

Yeah, I hope to do some good science soon.

What?

So when shall we expect the receive the combined Ice/Concrete friction and hardness theory?

Also, hope the testing wasn't too hard on you.
