Broke out the snow shovel today. We got dumped on, between 4 to 8 inches depending on the exact area. Got lucky and only got about 5 at home, but work got the full 8. There are piles of snow taller than me where the plows shoved it up. I've got a mini death star run between the house and the garage.

Yesterday I went for a walk with the wife, son, and dog in a local bayside community. On said walk, we encountered a group (flock?) of guineafowl. They were unconfined, free to roam the streets, and unaccompanied by anyone or anything except each other. There are no zoos or aviaries nearby, and guineafowl are native to western Africa - which is rather distant for a flightless or semi-flightless bird from Barnegat Bay in New Jersey. They were not, moreover, helmeted guineafowl, which is the kind that has been domesticated and is known in the UK as "gleanies."

Were they carrying coconuts?

In protesting proposed and planned education budget cuts, the student body has decided to do a study marathon. The University library is open 24/7 until Friday. How awesome is that? I can get huge loads of studying done now.

How does studying = protest?

Our great and enlightened government decided to relieve the state debt by heavily taxing the students, not just those starting to study under these terms, also those already underway and already being delayed that much. The brilliant oafs running our country decided that it would be a good idea to do this, as it would ferment their position as one of the top 5 knowledge economies. Also, the universities get an extra tax on top of those 3000 euros, while getting cuts on their budgets as well.

As of now, there are no exemptions know to me, for example because of extracurricular activities like student councils and leading student clubs as chairman and the like, not even for those delayed by medical causes.

Suffice to say the student population was not amused and this afternoon some 15000 of them came together to protest this policy. Unfortunately, the politicians didn't listen.
Now, I haven't checked lately, but some parts of our country, most notably the part where our government is located, may have tap water and the like with a bit much lead and toxics. They are trying to invest into an economy of knowledge by heavily cutting on the universities.
Also, institutions of lower secondary education don't get to bear the burden.

You misunderstand me. I completely get why you're protesting. I just don't understand how a bunch of students going to study forms much of a protest. That's like a bunch of garbagemen protesting by collecting the garbage.

It was a signal towards the gorvernment accompanied by classes lasting all night to show the immense flow of information being on the verge of shutdown. Also, several universities worked together in this respect and they each took one 24-hour study session.
