However, while he's the eleventh different face of the Doctor (unless you're being really nitpicky, in which case he's the twelfth), if you treat a regeneration in terms of the energy expended to repair the damage suffered and the change of appearance is a side effect of this process, then he's the twelfth, as he's gone through the regenerative process eleven times.

*Sigh* okay, fine. Mark, if you'd like for Christmas, I could buy the 2005 series for you. Better?Captain Seafort wrote:Nitpick: A reboot is starting again from scratch. The recent series of DW are merely a resumption. Why else do you think I labelled the 2010 series as number 31?RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:It can be cheesy... and some of the best TV ever. I could hook you up with season one of the reboot for Christmas.
My favorite's Tom Baker, but it's mostly he's the first/I love him with Romana.

Both, actually. Although truth be told it's been ages since I've seen Key of Time.Captain Seafort wrote:Which one?
And wonderful! I've been wanting to do something like that for a forum member for a while.

Actually, the First Doctor was played by someone other than Harnell in one of the "reunion" eps ("The Five Doctor," IIRC,) so there were even more than that.Captain Seafort wrote:unless you're being really nitpicky, in which case he's the twelfth
However, I'm not being that nitpicky - I'm talking about faces that spent significant time as The Doctor. Tennant's case is odd, because prior "canon" suggests that a true regeneration means a new appearance and personality. I'm afraid I haven't been as in-touch with the newer iteration to recall if it was called an actual regeneration in the show.

Richard Hurnall's appearance is exactly what I'm talking about.Mikey wrote:Actually, the First Doctor was played by someone other than Harnell in one of the "reunion" eps ("The Five Doctor," IIRC,) so there were even more than that.
He was definitely sufficiently seriously injured to trigger the regenerative process, however the damage was fairly minor and he bled off the excess energy into his old hand to prevent a full regeneration. This led to gross stupidity, and the abandonment of a golden opportunity to bring Romana back. However, I'm not being that nitpicky - I'm talking about faces that spent significant time as The Doctor. Preach it, Seafort! I've seen some excellent fanvids on youtube cutting and splicing together stuff to make Journey's End's last bits... good, and not headbangingly awful.Captain Seafort wrote: He was definitely sufficiently seriously injured to trigger the regenerative process, however the damage was fairly minor and he bled off the excess energy into his old hand to prevent a full regeneration. I sometimes wonder if that regeneration didn't go pear-shaped in the same way his fifth did. The Doctor certainly seemed a lot less mentally stable between it and regenerating properly (his actions in JE, his swings from megalomania to desperation at the end of Waters of Mars, getting distinctly clingy to his current incarnation in The End of Time, jumping out of helicopters despite what happened to Four).

Well, he got shot by a Dalek, bled off his regeneration energy, created a half-human clone of himself and then mindraped Donna.
I'm not arguing or anything, mind you. Just going over some facts...

Holy Sh*t! My school has made it to the NCAA Division II football playoffs for the first time in its history. We also have the best football record this team has ever had (9-1 for the regular season, 10-1 counting post-season). This is the best the teams done since I think 1949 when they had their best opening record: 4-0

Mother to the rescue. My mom is letting me borrow her netbook until I can buy a replacement laptop. Nice to have something other than my Itouch at work again, though this thing is going to take some getting used to. The keyboard is so very tiny and has a slightly different layout for the outer keys than I'm used to. The shift key is the most annoying, because it's smaller than normal and placed right by the arrow keys. I have to actually look at it to be certain I hit it and not the up key. Still, small issue in the scheme of things, so I can't really complain.

Good to hear, Tsu. Good luck moving in, there.
