IMO, being the head of anything doesn't mean they have to be the best in everything. Just 'damn good' at it. I think Yoda was elected into his position whereas Palps killed his way up to the top.

The Yoda and Palps fight had a nice good blend of saber/Force combat which fits them. Whereas Anakin vs. Kenobi fight was mostly saber fight. Perhaps age has something to do with it.

Yoda flipping around like that while looks cool, seems odd to me. It would be like a redo of Vader in OT also flipping around too. But then we wouldn't have the classic Luke emo-fighting the hell out of Vader in the last fight in RotJ.

all I can say is that in 3 it was an epic fail when Windu and the other Jedi go to arrest Palps. in that fight the first guy lasted what, a full 3 seconds? the others followed with not much more fight. it was quickly left to Windu. what a waste of training it apparently was for the other Jedi...

Actually it was their forms that lead to their demise. Fisto only knew form 1, which while decent, has no major effectiveness against Juyo. And the other one seemed to also use form 1. Whereas Windu used Vaapad, a modification of Juyo, so they were a match for each other.

Or it could have been the fact that they were taken by surprise and crowded into a small ante-chamber and facing a Sith Lord eminating some sort of anti-force waves.

I figured that with that Battle Cry he made was some sort of Sith technique to temporarily freeze your opponent or something like that.

Well, yeah. I was speaking more in general terms, but your point is much more relevant.

I admit I would have been a bit frozen at first hearing that sound come out of that guy. I would have just stood there and looked at him as well.

This is going to sound completely stupid, but it just occured to me. What if that yell was a dark side "force-scramble" technique. I mean, MOST Jedi rely on the Force to guide them in lightsaber combat and don't spend much time actually practicing. What if that scream blocked their sense to give Palps a first strike? The only ones able to block would be those who actually PRACTICED, like Windu.

I've alwasy been under the impression that Windu had gathered the only available guys he had, "ordinary" Jedi, quite powerful enough to defeat the "standard" soldier or scoundrel, but not up to par on the "Sith Lord Hunting" level...
They didn't really seem to be affected by the scream at all, they just stood there and almost let themselves be cut down...

On the contrary - Kolar, Fisto and Tiin were all Council Masters, and among the best swordsmen in the Order. They simply weren't up to taking on Sidious who, along with Windu, Kenobi, Dooku, Yoda and Skywalker was one of the top half dozen swordsmen in the galaxy.

I've got such a hard time with bladesmen of that quality being followed by Luke. Hell, Anakin was one of the best ever, and he was taken by Luke. Of course, the style they used, it's likely that I could have beat Vader.

I think once he had an entire body of robotic parts he lost a good deal of his swordsmanship...

He lost the ability for acrobatic moves and such, but he also gained alot in physical size and strength. We know that he continued to hunt down and kill Jedi knights, so he still displayed SOME skill. We just didn't get to see much of it.

Vader wasn't looking to beat Luke though. He wanted to turn him because he thought that was the only way to save his life. Vader could have killed Luke with little effort if that was his intent.
