Simply saying "they're remaking TOS, ergo it must be s**t" is foolish. Reviews from people who have been allowed looks at the film are quite good, and we know nothing about the plot itself. Personaly I'm somewhat hopeful, and will be going into the cinema with an open mind.
Maybe you're right. Perhaps I should say instead that they are, by accepting this as the idea for their project, accepting a HUGE responsibility that they will need to follow through on.

What most concerns me is how they will change the look and history of things.
Another huge concern for me. I still think it looks uncertain as to whether this is a re-boot or a prequel, and I don't like the idea of doing both. Another major concern for me is that this will represent another major break from the atmosphere of Star Trek, as we saw in Nemesis.
Plus, my biggest concern is that this movie will get the tone entirely wrong. By this I mean actively trying to be ironic/spoofy in a poorly executed manner. It just seems almost impossible to replicate the cheesiness/greatness/actual humor in TOS today.
But you never know, I guess.

Aye, there's a lot of pressure on them to get this right. Whether or not this movie is successful is going to determine Trek's future, whether it lives or dies.

I assume it will be crap because I assume anything that rehashes a time line that has already past is crap.

So anything that is historic is crap, or do you refer to just movie history?

I think he just means prequals.

I believe he is referring to Trek prequels rather than History itself. By going back and visiting a previous time frame there is much less you can do, you can't have the Ferengi, the Borg, Cloaking Romulans or introduce major events that shape the way the Universe unfolds but weren't there before, you are massively limited in the races, enemies and aggressors that can be used based on where you in History.
I think a lot of that sentiment really was fueled by what Enterprise did and how they so blatantly ignored Cannon and Common Sense. What they did in Enterprise would be like making a show about the Napoleonic Wars but having General Rommel leading his charge of Panzers against Napoleon at Waterloo, its not right and its stupid. That has, IMHO at least, ruined any possible Trek Prequel, even if they do this right, which based on what I seen appearing more modern than TOS, does not seem to be the case thus far.

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure.
And I agree wholeheartedly.

That's a better way to say it. I'm a 'Trek fan too, of course, but it's silly to say that it will definitely suck because there is a chance for it to suck.

Um, I just caught this. If the Kelvans haven't been discovered as yet by an older Kirk and crew, why is this new ship called the "Kelvan"?

I think it's actually "Kelv
in." Perhaps the producers where just such fans of thermodynamics they had to do it.

Well isn't that originally the name of a scientist? That would follow the tradition of naming ships after scientists. The Pasteur... Um, The Yamato? Theee... Einstein. No, wait... There've gotta be more than that.
